Essential Oils In Bath Bombs And Their Benefits
Share
Non-toxic skincare and clean methods of self-care are all the rage right now. More than ever people are interested in finding “cleaner” products (think essential oils and plant-based everything) to introduce into their daily and/or weekly beauty and self-care routines. Now, I don’t know about you, but have you ever looked at the ingredients list for some beauty products?
There are so many long, unpronounceable words it seriously makes my head spin. One product in particular that I started making on my own a while ago because of questionable ingredients is bath bombs.
I love a good bath bomb as much as the nest person. So when I started making them myself, I wanted to incorporate as many good-for-me benefits as possible. One must-have item that fell into that category was essential oils. There are so many positive benefits associated with essential oils that it really was a no-brainer. Plus it makes the bombs smell ahhmazing.
So, what are these benefits (other than the great smell) of using essential oils in bath bombs? I’ve got all the answers below.
Non-Toxic
This goes back to what I mentioned above pertaining to ingredient lists. For example, if you go to a regular box store and pick up a bag of bath bombs and look at the ingredient list, there’s a good chance you won’t be able to pronounce at least a few of the ingredients.
Don’t get me wrong. You can definitely find big brands that make bath bombs with essential oils. But not all bath bombs are created equal. Some brands use synthetic fragrances to create their scents, in which case that particular bath bomb could be loaded with toxic chemicals.
To avoid bath bombs with such ingredients, look for ones that have essential oils listed right there on the label. Or you can also make your own (hint hint, we have a few different recipes for DIY bath bombs)! Shopping local can also help because typically when products are mass produced, the ingredients start to get a little more suspect.
Deeper Stress Relief
There’s a reason people like to diffuse essential oils all day at home and at their office desks. Relaxation and stress relief. Aromatherapy is something that has been around for quite a while and is based on the idea that “aromatic plant oils” can help support both psychological and physical well-being.
Sounds pretty legit to me! And way, way better than breathing in faux plant oils made from harsh chemicals.
Bottom line, when you’re in need of some serious relaxation but don’t want to chance chemicals, go for bath bombs that are made with 100% pure essential oils.
The Best Essential Oils For Bath Bombs
Lemongrass oil
Lemongrass oil has tons of benefits (as do all essential oils) and is particularly good for a bath bomb. It is commonly used in aromatherapy for muscle relaxation and to reduce the feelings of stress and anxiety. And as far as the bath part goes, lemongrass oil is also known and commonly used to kill bacteria and ward off infection. Sounds like a win-win!
Eucalyptus oil
Eucalyptus oil is one of my favorites for when I make my own bath bombs. It has a super refreshing scent, but is also a natural antiseptic. I like to take a eucalyptus bath bomb bath after I’ve gotten any bug bites or if I’m feeling especially inflamed because it’s also an anti-inflammatory. Or, if you happen to struggle with body acne, I highly recommend taking a eucalyptus-infused bath.
Lavender oil
If you really want to relax and maybe even fall asleep during your bath, lavender is for sure the way to go. It’s ultra soothing and will have you calm, cool and dozing off in no time. You could even mix in some peppermint, which is really great for sore muscles. What beats that combo? Just about nothing.
